On April 7 the conference named "Nuclear power plant in Belarus: pluses and minuses" was held in the headquarters of the Belarusian Green party. As part of the press conference, activists and nuclear-physics from Russia and Belarus expressed their views on the nuclear power development.

It should be mentioned there was a resolution adopted by the Security Council ¹ 1 (31 January 2008), according to which the President has approved of a plan for building a nuclear power plants by 2016.

The participants came to the decision that "It's necessary to create a committee for the thorough study of nuclear power plants building and for providing the recommendations for the country's leadership". In 1998 the Council of Ministries ordered to set up a government committee to consider the development of nuclear power. One of the members of that government committee was Professor Lepin. As a result, the committee came to the conclusion that it would be inadvisable to build nuclear power plants.
