The organizing committee for the Chernobyl Way 2008 holding which takes place on April 28 is being formed in Minsk. Aliaksandr Milinkevich, the head of the organizing committee of the “For Freedom” movement, took the initiative on March 17.
In his opinion, the participants of the action want to evaluate the state policy “to minimise the effects of the disaster in the affected areas”. “Chernobyl Way 2008 will help the further development of the campaign which tries to prevent the construction of the nuclear power station in authoritarian Chernobyl Belarus,” considers the author of the statement. The chairman of Green party Oleg Novikov comments the statement “I support the Aliaksandr Milinkevich initiative. The emphasis should be on the social issues of the Chernobyl victims and issues related to the construction of nuclear power plant. Obviously, the rehabilitation of a peaceful atom is directly related to the elimination of the compensation for victims. The elimination of their benefits in turn passes simultaneously with the general revision of the Belarusian Social Policy”.
